I wasn’t the only one with this experience. When I tried to tell him why my sleeves were up he told me he didn’t want to hear it and to shut up and let him talk. He accused me of seeking attention for self harm because the nurse had just applied ointment to my cuts and told me not to roll my sleeves down. He told me that I was selfish for even thinking about killing my self and that my family would probably be better off if I did. He let me talk for about 5 min before he started yelling at me and I really mean yelling. I went into the hospital feeling totally alone and worthless as well as suicidal he made sure I stayed that way. He was the absolute worst part of my stay. I did my research and discovered that he is still the only psychiatrist on s taff for adolescents. Fletcher is the psychiatrist who I saw every day during my stay. I know it’s been awhile since my visit so I have 2 reasons for writing this review. 1: I want to keep parents from letting the hospital admit their children and 2: I feel like I need closure to this part of my life as it truly was a horrible experience that I will never forget. I was admitted to the stress center as an adolescent when I was 15 (2015). To admit here is to admit to a week of hell. Sit down with your loved one or yourself, and call for real help. Truly, there is no worse option than Saint Vincent's. Vincent's without thinking of how lonely, helpless, unseen, and frustrated I was. I spent five absolutely miserable days here in December for suicidal ideation, and was not any better-if anything, I felt worse. There is such a lack of empathy, concern, and kindness: the best part of the day is eating stale food or falling asleep in a cold room. The floor is dusty and the tables are dirty. The resident doctor, Doctor Fletcher, deems patients 'selfish' and 'stupid' for thoughts they cannot control patients aren't helped into becoming better, but are rather scared into admitting that they were “wrong for being depressed”. One nurse-McKenzie or Macie, whichever one with glasses, black scrubs, and a receding hairline-cussed multiple times and encouraged reckless behavior, even disclosing personal information about another nurse. Instead of treatment, patients are forced through group therapy, with “helpful” topics such as how to get a strike on Wii Bowling or how to color in lines. To leave, one must be deemed 'safe'-but only after two poorly planned meetings with an unempathetic doctor. Well as a social services director let me say how disappointed I am in your customer service and if they are treating me like that, someone referring a person that is crying out for help, how Is that person going to be treated once they get there? Dave you should be ashamed of yourself and the length of time it took just to reject someone in need!! … – showĪsides from a disinterested and careless staff, there is zero emphasis on becoming safer or better, instead valuing worksheets from childrens' books on impractical coping skills and strategies. Really 1 1/2 days to deny a suicidal person with a plan ridiculous!!!! Anyway back to Dave after explaining this I was asked to try to stop the fax from continuing because once they received it they were going to shred it anyway because they couldn't keep the paperwork overnight. I tried explaining that I wanted them to have everything they needed for when someone discharged the following day because it took a day and half from the initial referral just to get a no we can't admit this person. Being proactive I sent in all the documentation needed to admit someone just to get phone call from a staff member, Dave, scolding me fo r tying up the fax line because I was told there was not an open bed that day. So far everyone I spoke with was kind and willing to work with me. In trying to get this person admitted a few days later I was informed there would possibly be openings the following day. I can understand when I first called they were full. As of December 2012, the program had facilitated more than 78,000 referrals to care and enabled the distribution of $43.7 million worth of free or reduced-cost prescription drugs.I am a social worker and I was trying to get someone admitted with suicidal ideation and a plan for an inpatient stay.
